In nature, April represents a month of transition and growth, which perfectly captures all the amazing Barbershop Books news from last month.
We had the distinct honor and pleasure of welcoming new barbershops to the program thanks to supporters, just like you.
With that being said, here’s what we were up to in April:
Power 105.1 Radio
Alvin Irby discussed how the organization is spreading the love of reading among young Black boys with Public Affairs Host, Kim Kane.
A big win across the city of Wilmington, Delaware! The Wilmington Public Library sponsored Barbershop Books reading spaces for 20 Wilmington barbershops. The Wilmington kickoff event held at Dudes Haircuts and Shave in downtown Wilmington was attended by Mike Purzycki, Mayor of Wilmington, Michelle Harlee, Councilwoman, Rysheema Dixon, City Council-At-Large, and Elizabeth Lockman, Senator.
We’d like to give a special shout out to The Bellefonte Lions and the Edgemoor Zakat Leos who volunteered at the Wilmington library to assemble the 20 bookshelves. Great job!
Barbershop Books has officially arrived in San Jose, premiering at Allstar Barbershop. Local kindergarten teacher and donor, Matteo Enna, made this new barbershop partnership possible. Thanks for all you do to “help the babies read.”
