Dear Barbershop Books supporter,
This is the first holiday season under the new reality that touches us all. And although we can’t connect with all of our loved ones as we used to, this is still the season to pause, reflect and share joy when we can. Sharing the joy of reading with young Black boys and girls that have limited access to books is a gift that will endure throughout their lifetime and is the mission of Barbershop Books.
Under Covid safety precautions that have eliminated waiting in barbershops, Barbershop Books has initiated a bold new way to extend and enrich our mission of helping young Black boys to identify as readers.
Barbershop Books is now providing each participating barbershop with a total of 25 book packets. Each book packet contains three children’s books that are enriching, culturally responsive, and fun to read. Barbers, that we partner with to promote early literacy, will give the 25 book sets to children and families with limited book access. And the best news – the kids get to keep the books, bring them home and start their own personal library.
We need your help to make this happen.
With a donation of $300 (or $25 a month), you can put new books into the hands of 25 children that might never have owned one. A donation of $600 (or $50 a month) will start 50 young Black boys down the road to being a young reader today, and a young leader tomorrow.
This is a dream come true for these young Black boys and a start to reading for enjoyment, fun and learning – outside of the classroom. We hope you can help us give them that chance and donate what you can today.
