New York City-Based Barbershop Books Recognized as a Top 10 CNN Hero During
CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute for Work Toward Early Childhood Literacy.
Barbershop Books to Potentially Receive Up to $50K in Matched Donations from
the Elevate Prize Foundation Through January 5, 2024
New York City, N.Y. – (Dec. 10, 2023) – New York City-based Barbershop Books was recognized as a Top 10 CNN Hero during CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute on Sunday, December 10. Barbershop Books was celebrated by CNN Heroes for its work toward a future where all children identify as readers and enjoy learning. Presenting the award was Actor, Jeffrey Wright who made a special appearance to present the honor to Barbershop Books in celebration of their life-changing work.
The Peabody and Emmy® Award-winning CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute, which honors everyday people who are making extraordinary contributions to help improve the lives of others, was hosted by Anderson Cooper and joined by CNN Anchor and Chief Legal Analyst Laura Coates as co-host of the live show from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
As a Top 10 CNN Hero, Barbershop Books has the potential to receive $50,000 in matched donations from global nonprofit the Elevate Prize Foundation. The donations will help Barbershop Books continue their life-changing work to inspire Black boys and other vulnerable children to read for fun through child-centered, culturally responsive, and community-based programming and content. Supporters can make online donations to Barbershop Books directly from CNNHeroes.com through Friday, January 5, 2024, until 11:59 p.m. PT.
