Earlier this month, Barbershop Books gathered with barber partners from the Philadelphia area for a Barber Appreciation Dinner.
Over plates of good food and plenty of smiles, we celebrated the barbers who transform their shops into fun reading spaces for Black boys in their communities. Their commitment helps thousands of boys build confidence, discover new stories, and proudly say, “I’m a reader.”
We surprised attendees with a special raffle featuring 25 copies of Saturday Morning at the Shop by Keenan Jones and 25 copies of I Am Jackie Robinson by Brad Meltzer.
Our attendees recieved amazing swag such as shampoo, conditioner, pomade and more thanks to the generosity of our event sponsors. A huge thank you to Bevel, DAX Hair Care, Murray’s Pomade and Isoplus.

Their support helped make this celebration feel truly special, and we are deeply grateful for their partnership.
As we move into a new year filled with big goals and even bigger impact, we’re honored to continue working alongside such dedicated barbers. Their leadership and genuine care for their communities help inspire Black boys and other vulnerable children to read for fun everyday.
Thank you again to every barber who joined us and to every partner who helps us #HelpTheBabiesRead. We can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together next.
